Thrift vs. Splurge: 5 Pieces That Are Really Worth Your Money This Spring

Thrift vs. Splurge: 5 Pieces That Are Really Worth Your Money This Spring

There are few things in this life that can rejuvenate us as much as the changing of the seasons. The combination of changing temperatures and a new set of traditions, holidays and events is eerily giving us a new sense of energy and inspiration. As one season transitions into the next, many of us also look forward to refreshing our wardrobes, focusing on the colors, textures and silhouettes that best suit the current season.

While those of us who are particularly attuned to our fashion ambitions would probably like to have a wardrobe that resembles a main character on a big-ticket television series (i.e. a perfectly styled outfit for every day of the year), the reality is that our vision doesn’t always add up matches our personal budget. The truth is that many of us need to be strategic when adding new pieces to our wardrobe. Some items are worth a top dollar investment, and for others we sometimes have to compromise and realize that an affordable option can overcome our fashion slump without breaking the bank.

As you refresh your wardrobe this spring, be aware of which pieces can look great with little effort and which are worth investing in because you’ll be wearing them long after the season is over.

After months of gray, overcast skies, the sun is finally shining again! Never underestimate the ability of sunglasses, even if they are small in stature, to instantly add that certain something to an outfit. Not only are sunglasses practical in the warmer months, but they also add a sense of completeness to an ensemble. The good news: It’s easy to find stylish sunglasses at an affordable price. Look for an oval or rectangular frame that is on trend this season.

Luxury: trench coats

There is perhaps no piece of clothing that represents spring fashion more than the trench coat. Practical, stylish and timeless, trench coats are a staple of the season. Since they never go out of style and we reach for coats and jackets almost every day, it’s worth investing in this spring piece. Pair it with literally any outfit you’re already planning on wearing this spring.

Capri pants

Just in case you haven’t heard, capris are back with a vengeance this spring (and if you’re currently having flashbacks of watching Lizzie McGuire as a teenager, you’re not alone). Whether you’re really excited about this resurgence or just curious to try it out, consider purchasing affordable options of this style. While they’re super trendy right now, I’m not sure how much we’ll be reaching for pedal pushers in a year or two.

Splurge: Sports Prep Pieces

While the tenniscore aesthetic has been trending for two years, it’s actually rooted in classic styles that have been around for decades and will last forever. While you can certainly save on sporty, chic pieces (there are plenty of affordable options at retailers), these items are more than worth opting for because you can rest assured that you’ll be reaching for them again and again. (Who can resist pieces that are both sophisticated and comfortable?) Tennis skorts, sneakers, elevated sweatshirts, and sporty V-neck sweaters are pieces we never tire of and can be styled in a variety of ways.

Micro shorts

Let it be known: Fashion girls are shortening their hemlines this spring. Aside from the humble capri pants, hot pants are the celebrity-inspired trend worn by the bold style-conscious among us. While this trend is inexplicably cool, there’s a high chance it won’t last beyond the coming spring and summer. If you want to take advantage of the trend, save some money by choosing an affordable option.

Splurge: Ballerina flats

Of course, you can also opt for a cheaper version of this trendy shoe, but in reality, ballet flats are of timeless quality. This means that even if they are no longer “on trend”, they will always remain stylish. Plus, they go well with everything. Choosing to invest in a quality pair has its benefits – you wantthat this shoe will last for many years.

As someone with arched arches, I can also personally confirm that wearing quality is more important than comfort and foot health; In other words, cheap, poorly made shoes are more likely to harm and potentially damage your feet. Due to the minimal construction of ballet flats, you can save your feet some inconvenience by purchasing a higher quality shoe.
